Sunday 22nd September.

Steve picked me up at 9.30 and we along with Lauren and Josh set of for Stonar school near Bath. Paul, Steve’s friend from Uni, was there with  wife Jo and daughters. The elder one, Pippa16 years old, was riding there in a one day event. We stopped off at a farm shop on the way to pick up supplies for lunch. I was so pleased to see pigs there leading an outdoor life.
We arrived at Stonar and as the weather forecast was not good, it was still raining a bit, Steve had brought me a pair of his wellies. Now if I tell you that Steve takes a size 12 and I take a size 6 they didn’t exactly fit despite wearing 2 pairs of thick socks! Still better than paddling around the muddy ground in my trainers.
We located Paul and family just returning from the dressage arena as Pippa had just finished her test. Thankfully the rain had stopped as we had an hour or so to wait before Pippa did her show jumping. Lunch was eaten, coffee drunk and lots of chat in the interim. We watched Pippa and Pickles in the practice ring sailing over the jumps. Unfortunately Pickles decided, once in the main ring, that she wasn’t going to sail over many jumps and had 3 refusals thereby being eliminated. Oh dear, that means she can’t compete in the cross country. However every cloud has a silver lining and it meant that Paul and family could start the journey back to Surrey much earlier. After a few tears Pippa recovered and we all walked back to the trailer. I was able to have a horsey fix by having a chat with Pickles before we all left for our journeys home.
The weather had cleared up and we spent an hour or so at the playground in Wells before Steve dropped me off home. A short break and then N and I went to Steve’s where we had sausage and mash and Yorkshire puddings! Time then for the children to prepare for bed as it’s a school day tomorrow.
Tonight was a bit special! For the first time Josh allowed me to read him a bedtime story! What made it even more special was that I was able to read him Bess What a Mess a book illustrated by my cousin that she had given me for them. Then I read it to Lauren and shortly after that we left them.
