Sunday 8th September.
I went to service in Wells Cathedral at 9.45am. So beautiful with the choir and the organ in such magnificent surroundings. So different from my last church service in the tiny church in Russell NZ. Both very special places in different ways.
We drove up to the Mendip golf club for 12.45 pm and met up with Steve, Lauren and Josh and Keith and Ginny. Plan was for them to play 9 holes and Nigel and I to drive round in golf buggy with Lauren and Josh. Nigel was the first designated driver but it was soon obvious that he wasn’t going to be able to cope with the distraction of two little ones trying to “help” him steer! I took over and with some difficulty mastered the art of driving the buggy, keeping some control over my passengers and being silent and in the right place at respective times. No mean feat! Anyway once we had all got used to it all went pretty well. Lauren and Josh jumped out at the tees and then at the putting greens. The view from the top of the course is magnificent and apparently one can see 7 counties and over the Bristol Channel and into Wales. It was a beautiful day and visibility was good. In fact all went so well the decision was taken to play all 18 holes. It was good to be out in the fresh air but I was glad that I didn’t have to walk all the way. Steve was so happy to be on the course as he doesn’t get to play a lot these days.
We all went back to Keith and Ginny’s where Kris joined us. I relaxed with a g and t and then we all had a splendid roast lamb meal before going back to our respective homes.
